Enthusiastically received, "The Surprise Party" won the silver medal in the Theatrical Feature Film category and was featured in local publications, including the Houston Chronicle and Houston Today. "We were delighted with the overwhelmingly positive reception the film got in Houston," said executive producer John Landwehr. "This festival was a tremendous step for us in terms of launching 'The Surprise Party.'" "The Surprise Party" premiered on Sunday, April 20th at 9:00 at the Meyerland Plaza THX theatres. Prior to the film's opening credits, Hunter Todd, who has guided WorldFest-Houston for 34-years, introduced Writer/Director Garrett Rice to a crowded house. Mr. Rice gave a brief overview of his romantic drama before the lights went down and the audience enjoyed the show. At the close of the film, Mr. Rice answered questions about the making of the film for nearly thirty minutes. Inquiries ranged from his inspiration for the storyline to anecdotes about fundraising and production. At the second screening of "The Suprise Party" on Tuesday April 24, World-Fest executives presented Mr. Rice and Expedition Films with an achievement award. "I accepted the award on behalf of my tireless cast and crew," said Mr. Rice. "They, along with my investors, my family and my marketing team, have spent countless hours making 'The Surprise Party' a great success."
